Dalfsen and Nieuwleusen expand electricity grid for energy transition
Extensive excavation work is underway in Dalfsen and Nieuwleusen to reinforce the local electricity grid. This infrastructure expansion is designed to support the growing demand for electricity driven by the energy transition, including the rise of electric vehicles, the use of heat pumps in homes, and increased residential construction.
Paul Wassing, an advisor for underground infrastructure and energy transition for the municipality of Dalfsen, stated that the grid is being strengthened by laying additional cables, replacing existing lines with thicker ones, and installing extra transformer stations. To minimize environmental impact, such as protecting tree roots, specialized drilling machines are being used to create tunnels up to seven meters deep.
The municipality and the utility company Enexis are attempting to coordinate these projects with other road maintenance and improvements to maximize efficiency while the ground is open.
