Dallas County property tax bills delayed by election vote
In Dallas County, homeowners will not receive their 2026 property tax bills until after the November 3 election. This delay is due to a pending vote on whether to approve a higher county tax rate.
Regardless of the election outcome, taxes are expected to increase. The county rate will rise to approximately 22.5 cents per $100 of value even if the measure is rejected, and could reach 24.9 cents if approved. For a median homestead, the county portion of the bill would increase to $666.52 from $558.97 last year.
The compressed timeline between the election and the January 31 payment deadline may create financial pressure for homeowners, particularly those already facing mortgage arrears or foreclosure. Delinquent taxes in Texas incur a 6 percent penalty and 1 percent interest starting February 1.
