Pro Silver Star sues My Chemical Romance over cheerleader uniforms

Pro Silver Star Ltd., the owner of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (DCC) brand, has filed a lawsuit against the rock band My Chemical Romance. The legal action follows the band’s residency at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, where dancers performed in outfits that allegedly infringe upon the DCC’s protected trade dress.

The dispute centers on a theatrical sequence during the song ‘Teenagers,’ in which dancers wearing blue-and-white uniforms—resembling the iconic DCC look—participated in a staged firefight using prop rifles. Pro Silver Star claims the resemblance was significant enough to cause audience confusion, with some social media users believing the performers were the actual cheerleading squad.

The company is seeking a temporary restraining order, a preliminary injunction to prevent further use of the costumes, and unspecified monetary damages. The filing alleges that the use of the uniforms in a simulated combat scene could damage the brand’s reputation, which is built on dedication and community service. Pro Silver Star stated it does not seek to censor the band’s music, choreography, or political messaging, but specifically requests that the performers do not wear the DCC-style uniforms during the production.
