Dallas Cowboys defensive players show progress in training camp

The Dallas Cowboys are seeing developments across their defense during training camp. First-round pick Caleb Downs recorded his first interception of the preseason during an open practice in Frisco, Texas, intercepting a pass from Dak Prescott.

In the linebacker position, rookie Jaishawn Barham is emerging as a potential Week 1 starter. Following his preseason debut, head coach Brian Schottenheimer praised Barham’s physicality and noted that the player is trending upward despite a previous groin injury. Barham is currently competing for a spot in Christian Parker’s defensive scheme.

Additionally, analysts have suggested a hypothetical trade for Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. to bolster the Cowboys' secondary. Such a move would aim to address concerns regarding existing cornerbacks and provide mentorship for Caleb Downs, though Porter is currently involved in a contract impasse with the Steelers.
