Dallas Cowboys face criticism following players-only meeting

The Dallas Cowboys are facing scrutiny following a 2-3 start to their season and a recent loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In an attempt to address defensive struggles, the team held a players-only meeting, a move that has drawn sharp criticism from former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin. Tomlin suggested that a team is “dead” when it resorts to such meetings.

Former Pro Bowl wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson echoed Tomlin’s sentiment, stating that the team is “done.” The Cowboys' struggles have been compounded by the departure of Micah Parsons, leaving the defense unable to perform effectively despite efforts from general manager Jerry Jones and the front office to bolster the unit.

While current head coach Brian Schottenheimer has not been officially placed on the hot seat, his position may face pressure if the team continues to lose. Amidst the Cowboys' internal turmoil, NFL insider Josina Anderson reports that an unnamed ownership family in the NFC is interested in pursuing Mike Tomlin as a potential head coach replacement for their own franchise.
