Dallas Cowboys reduce George Pickens' role following performance concerns
The Dallas Cowboys have reduced the playing time of wide receiver George Pickens following criticism regarding his performance. During a recent 38-21 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, Pickens saw his snap count drop to 41, compared to 69 in the previous week. Ryan Flournoy played more snaps than Pickens during the contest.
Coach Brian Schottenheimer publicly criticized Pickens for lackluster run-blocking efforts during a prior loss to the Green Bay Packers. Statistics show Pickens participated in only 13 run-blocking snaps against Philadelphia, while teammates Ryan Flournoy and CeeDee Lamb recorded 28 and 27 snaps, respectively.
Pickens, who is currently involved in a contract dispute, has recorded 37 catches for 485 yards and two touchdowns this season. While his per-game production remains high, his overall statistics represent a decline from his previous season. Former All-Pro Steve Smith has suggested that the Cowboys could consider trading Pickens to the Kansas City Chiefs to address their need for a deep-threat receiver.
