Dallas Cowboys restructure contracts to clear $19 million in cap space

The Dallas Cowboys have implemented significant salary cap restructuring to increase their financial flexibility. By restructuring the contracts of DaRon Bland, Jake Ferguson, and Kenny Clark, the team has cleared approximately $19 million in cap space, bringing their total available room to $33 million.

This maneuver provides the Cowboys with the necessary funds to potentially pursue a trade for Maxx Crosby, who would require nearly $30 million in upfront cap space. However, the restructuring also carries long-term risks. By modifying the contracts of Bland and Ferguson, the team has increased their dead cap hits for 2027, making it much more difficult to move on from these players in the future.

Additionally, the team is working to mitigate previous financial burdens. The Cowboys are set to be relieved of several dead cap hits by the 2026 season, including payments for former players Michael Gallup, DeMarcus Lawrence, and Brandin Cooks.
