Dallas Cowboys re-sign QB Joe Milton to practice squad

The Dallas Cowboys have re-signed quarterback Joe Milton III to their practice squad after he was briefly released during final roster cuts. Milton had originally been waived to clear a spot on the 53-man roster for running back Emari Demercado, who was claimed off waivers from the Kansas City Chiefs.

During the preseason, Milton and Sam Howell competed intensely for the primary backup role behind Dak Prescott. While the Cowboys ultimately selected Howell as the No. 2 quarterback due to his offensive execution, head coach Brian Schottenheimer described the decision as “very, very hard” and expressed a strong desire to keep Milton within the organization to continue his development.

Milton, a 26-year-old former sixth-round pick, went unclaimed on waivers and chose to remain in Dallas. His return to the organization via the practice squad provides positional depth for the team as they prepare for the upcoming season.
