Dallas-Fort Worth faces drought and extreme heat

The Dallas-Fort Worth area is facing a severe weather stretch characterized by triple-digit temperatures and a 60-day period without measurable rainfall. This drought is among the three longest on record for the region, leaving the area approximately 3.25 inches short of its annual rainfall requirement.

High heat indices, reaching up to 107 degrees, are increasing the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Additionally, the lack of moisture has heightened wildfire concerns, particularly in North Texas west of Interstate 35, where low humidity and gusty winds could facilitate the rapid spread of fires.
