Dallas Mavericks sign Walter Clayton Jr. to two-way contract

The Dallas Mavericks have signed guard Walter Clayton Jr. to a two-way contract, utilizing the team's final available slot for the season. Clayton, the 18th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, joins Dallas after being waived by the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday.

Clayton's rookie season included stints with the Utah Jazz and the Grizzlies, where he averaged 7.8 points, 4.0 assists, and 2.0 rebounds per game across 69 total appearances. He was previously part of a multi-player trade that sent Jaren Jackson Jr. to Utah.

Prior to his NBA career, Clayton was the Most Outstanding Player of the 2025 NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament, leading the University of Florida Gators to a national championship. Under the terms of his two-way deal, Clayton is eligible to appear in up to 50 games for the Mavericks but is ineligible for postseason or play-in games unless his contract is converted to a standard deal.
