Dallas Stars GM discusses Jason Robertson's contract future

Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill has addressed the future of star forward Jason Robertson following the player's recent signing of a one-year, $12 million contract. The deal was reached after Robertson filed for salary arbitration, which helped the team avoid a prolonged negotiation process.

Robertson, a perennial 40-goal scorer, is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2027, if a long-term extension is not reached. Nill stated that the organization's plan is to attempt to sign Robertson to a long-term extension during the current season, noting that the March 1 trade deadline will be a critical date in those discussions.

The negotiations follow a rejected trade scenario where the Stars would have sent Robertson to the Seattle Kraken in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick, contingent on Robertson agreeing to an eight-year, $15 million annual average value contract. Robertson declined the move to Seattle.
