Dallas Stars to begin Jason Robertson extension talks in December
The Dallas Stars intend to begin contract extension negotiations with winger Jason Robertson in December. Although Robertson is ineligible to sign a new deal until January 1, General Manager Jim Nill has indicated that discussions will commence early next month.
Following an inability to reach a long-term agreement this past summer, Robertson signed a one-year, $12 million deal to remain in Dallas. During that period, the Seattle Kraken reportedly offered an eight-year contract valued between $14 million and $15 million per season, which Robertson declined.
While the Stars faced salary cap constraints this season, they are expected to have significantly more flexibility next year. The departure of Tyler Seguin’s $9.85 million cap hit and a projected $9.5 million increase in the NHL salary cap limit are expected to provide the team with more room to negotiate a high-value extension for the top scorer.
