Dalmatian Festival Revives Heritage in Orahovica, Croatia

The town of Orahovica in Slavonia hosted the second edition of the "Days of Dalmatia" festival, organized by the local tourist board and the city’s cultural‑tourist committee. The event showcased traditional Dalmatian cuisine such as girice, lamb and regional drinks, and featured a programme of games and performances that blended Dalmatian and Slavonian traditions.

Highlights included a football match between Dinamo and Hajduk supporters from Orahovica (Dinamo won 3‑1), a novelty donkey‑race using figurines on sticks, and a series of contests such as a tug‑of‑war and a ball‑throwing competition. Young Kristina Šarić, a Dalmatian‑born resident, won the donkey‑race, while her mother Ivana placed third. The cultural group Kulturno‑umjetničko društvo Crkvari performed traditional songs from both regions. The festival concluded with awards presented by Vlado Gr, president of the city’s cultural‑tourist committee.
