Dalseo-gu Mayor Kim Yong-pan marks 100 days with policy shifts
Dalseo-gu District Mayor Kim Yong-pan marked his first 100 days in office by outlining a shift toward practical innovation and away from exhibitionist administration. Key achievements cited include resolving a 30-month long-term protest through dialogue and reducing waste at local events by eliminating traditional meal provisions, which subsequently boosted local business revenue.
However, the administration faces criticism regarding a new policy to ban free meal services in public parks starting next year. The district cites noise, hygiene, and sanitation concerns as primary reasons, proposing a transition to designated locations and one-on-one delivery services. The Citizens' Coalition for Economic Justice has labeled the decision “irresponsible,” arguing that the ban lacks sufficient alternatives and ignores the social role these meals play as meeting points for the elderly.
Additionally, Mayor Kim has moved to halt large-scale exhibitionist projects, such as the 59.4 billion won eco-observatory and starlight observatory, to redirect funds toward welfare and safety. Future plans include rebranding the Seongseo Industrial Complex into the DS Valley youth hub and expanding local park facilities.
