Dodgers catcher Dalton Rushing expects to avoid UCL surgery
Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Dalton Rushing believes he can avoid surgery to repair a partial tear in his right ulnar collateral ligament (UCL). After seeking multiple medical opinions, Rushing stated that he and the team have agreed that surgery is not necessary, opting instead to rehab the surrounding forearm muscles to stabilize the area.
Rushing, who was placed on the 10-day injured list last week, noted that the structural issue had been present on previous scans without causing symptoms. While manager Dave Roberts previously expressed doubt regarding Rushing's ability to catch again this season, Rushing remains optimistic that he can return to catching duties if his throwing progression allows.
The Dodgers are currently managing multiple injuries in their catching corps, as primary backstop Will Smith remains sidelined with a neck injury. Additionally, relief pitcher Blake Treinen is making progress in his recovery from right elbow inflammation and is expected to begin a rehab stint soon after being moved to the 60-day injured list.
