Dalton Smith and Alberto Puello face off ahead of WBC title fight
Dalton Smith and Alberto Puello concluded their promotional activities with an intense face-to-face encounter ahead of their WBC super lightweight championship bout. The fight is scheduled for October 24 at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield, United Kingdom.
Smith, the unbeaten British champion, enters the match with a 19-0 record and 14 knockouts. He expressed confidence in his preparation, noting he has studied Puello for over a year. Promoter Eddie Hearn described the bout as a demanding first defense for Smith, suggesting that consecutive victories over Subriel Matías and Puello would solidify his standing in the 140-pound division.
Challenger Alberto Puello, fighting with a 25-1 record, aims to reclaim the belt he previously held. Puello disputed the comparison that Smith’s experience against southpaws would suffice, claiming he is a “very difficult, complicated southpaw” that Smith has not encountered. Puello stated his preparation has been superior to his previous title attempt and intends to win the belt back for the Dominican Republic.
Hearn also noted that the winner of the contest may eventually face WBC interim super lightweight champion Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz.
