Damaged Russian vessel Fortis arrives at Giresun Port
The Russian-flagged commercial vessel Fortis, which sustained damage in the Black Sea, has been towed to Giresun Port with the assistance of tugboats. The ship is carrying over 3,000 tons of chickpeas in its holds.
Initial inspections indicate that a portion of the cargo has been damaged. Plans are underway to transport the undamaged chickpeas to Mersin via land transit, while the damaged portion is expected to be discharged and destroyed under the supervision of relevant authorities.
Following the vessel's arrival, a burning smell emanating from the ship has caused concern among local residents in Giresun. The odor has raised questions regarding potential health and environmental risks, as well as whether air quality measurements are being conducted. Residents and observers are awaiting official statements from port operators and public institutions regarding the source of the smell and the safety measures in place.
