Daman administration leads road safety pledge for SUV owners

The Daman administration organized the ‘Thar-Fortuner Sankalp Yatra’, a road safety initiative specifically targeting owners of Mahindra Thar and Toyota Fortuner SUVs. During the campaign, the District Collector administered a road safety pledge to participants to encourage responsible driving and discipline on public roads.

The initiative utilized slogans such as ‘Raftaar Nahi, Sanskaar’ (not speed, but values) and ‘Bhaigiri Nahi – Zimmedari!’ (not hooliganism, but responsibility) to address the aggressive driving images often associated with large SUVs. The campaign included a convoy of vehicles and the use of placards to promote safety alongside the pride of vehicle ownership.

Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw praised the move on social media, describing it as a commendable effort. She noted that India requires this type of behavioral ‘schooling’ to improve road conduct, suggesting that public pledges can sometimes be more effective than traditional road signs.
