Damaris Barry wins silver and sets Canadian water ski record
Damaris Barry, a water skier from North Cowichan, won a silver medal at the 2026 IWWF World Over 35 Waterski Championships held in Calgary. Competing in the women’s over-65 jump event, Barry achieved a jump of 14.3 metres (47 feet), making her the first Canadian woman in her age group to set a record-capable mark.
Barry’s achievement follows a significant recovery period after suffering a concussion in February 2025 while teaching a fitness class. Despite battling overstimulation and a period of mental exhaustion, she returned to competition representing Team Canada. Her recovery was supported by the Cowichan Brain Injury Society.
