Damascus International Fair hosts business days to drive industrial investment
The 63rd edition of the Damascus International Fair recently concluded its three-day business-focused period, which was specifically designated for investors, businesspeople, and official delegations before opening to the general public. The event featured participation from approximately 1,000 entities representing nearly 60 countries.
During these initial days, several agreements and memorandums of understanding were signed across various sectors, including industry, transport, water, agriculture, logistics, and trade. While formal unified financial totals for the resulting contracts have not yet been announced, the period facilitated direct communication between companies, distributors, and investors.
Industry leaders participating in the fair emphasized the event's role in transitioning Syria toward a more productive economy. Discussions focused on the importance of local manufacturing and import substitution to reduce reliance on foreign currency and imported goods. Experts noted that strengthening local industrial value chains—from raw materials to logistics and maintenance—is essential for increasing domestic added value and creating employment opportunities.
