Dameisha Beach in Shenzhen faces extreme overcrowding

Dameisha Beach in Shenzhen, China, has gained international attention for its extreme overcrowding. Despite being only 1.8 kilometers long, the public beach has previously hosted as many as 200,000 visitors at once, making movement across the sand and access to the water extremely difficult for many.

The beach’s popularity is attributed to its free admission, convenient public transportation via bus and metro, and its accessibility to both local residents and tourists. To manage the massive crowds, Shenzhen authorities have implemented visitor limits between May and October, capping daily entry at approximately 80,000 people. Visitors are now required to make reservations in advance to help mitigate the density of crowds on the shoreline.
