Damen launches hybrid CSOV for Taiwan offshore wind
Damen Shipyards Group has launched the second vessel in a two‑ship series of Commissioning Service Operations Vessels (CSOV 9020) for Ta San Shang Marine Co. Ltd. (TSSM). The ship, to be named TSS Challenger, is scheduled for delivery in early 2027 and will join the earlier‑delivered TSS Cruiser in TSSM’s fleet.
The 88‑metre hybrid CSOV features a diesel‑electric propulsion system with three MGO generators, a 1,700 kWh battery pack and provision for future operation on green methanol. It can house up to 120 crew and technicians in hotel‑class cabins, and is equipped with a motion‑compensated gangway, a 10‑ton offshore crane and other deck equipment designed for safe work in offshore wind installations. Built at Damen’s yard in Ha Long, Vietnam, the vessel will support construction and maintenance of offshore wind farms in Taiwanese waters, helping advance Taiwan’s growing offshore wind sector.
