Damian Lillard returns to Portland Trail Blazers aiming for NBA record

Damian Lillard has returned to NBA action with the Portland Trail Blazers following a 528-day absence caused by a ruptured left Achilles tendon sustained in April 2025. In his preseason return against Golden State, the 36-year-old veteran scored 15 points in 19 minutes, stating he feels “explosive in both directions” and has regained his previous form.

Beyond his physical recovery, Lillard is targeting a new milestone: becoming the sole record holder for the NBA Three-Point Contest. Having won the title in 2023, 2024, and 2026, a fourth victory in 2027 would allow him to surpass Larry Bird and Craig Hodges.

The Trail Blazers' roster features several key players alongside Lillard, including center Donovan Clingan, who has shown improvement in his shooting, and Deni Avdija. The team is also looking toward potential surprises such as Hansen Yang, following his performance in the Summer League.
