Damián Díaz returns to Barcelona SC through 2027

Argentine-Ecuadorian midfielder Damián ‘Kitu’ Díaz is returning to Barcelona Sporting Club for a third stint. The 40-year-old player has reached an agreement to sign a contract through December 2027, with some reports suggesting a potential retirement ceremony in 2028.

The return follows his departure from Guayaquil City and is tied to resolving a significant historical debt owed to the player by Barcelona SC, estimated at over $2 million. The new agreement includes a manageable salary and a structured plan to settle the outstanding debt over an extended period.

His return has sparked discussion regarding the club’s iconic number 10 jersey, currently held by Joao Rojas.
