Damine Tecnologia develops AI platform to optimize eucalyptus production

Damine Tecnologia, a startup accelerated by the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS), has developed PlantSpec, a platform designed to optimize forest production. The technology combines spectral data with artificial intelligence to identify clonal eucalyptus materials by analyzing how plants respond to light.

By providing precise identification during the nursery stage, PlantSpec aims to prevent errors that could lead to significant economic losses and resource waste—such as water and soil—years later when large-scale plantations are established. The scale of potential impact is highlighted by companies like Suzano, which maintains 457,000 hectares of eucalyptus in Mato Grosso do Sul alone.

Developed by researchers Edson Antonio Batista and Jader Lucas Perez, the technology recently secured second place in the Desafio Pantanal Tech MS 2026 innovation challenge.
