Damir Nikšić criticizes SDP BiH and political landscape

Damir Nikšić, an independent representative in the House of Representatives, has issued sharp criticisms regarding the current political landscape in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Nikšić expressed frustration with what he described as a high level of competition among political figures he characterized as “performance artists” seeking public attention and fame.

Nikšić specifically targeted his former party, the Social Democratic Party (SDP BiH), labeling its members as “extravagant mediocrities” who behave like “medieval nobility.” He argued that the party’s continued political relevance is not due to their leadership, but rather because voters feel they have no other viable options. He suggested that the party relies on voter disillusionment, but warned that the public may eventually respond by voting with disgust or abstaining from elections altogether.

Nikšić’s political history includes membership in the SDP from 2018 to 2019, followed by the founding of the Ecological Libertarian Movement (ESP) in 2020. He later joined Naša stranka, serving in the federal parliament until his departure from the party in March 2025.
