Damm expands hop cultivation project in Prades

The brewery Damm is expanding its hop cultivation project in Prades, Tarragona, aiming to exceed 7 tons of production this year. The initiative, a collaboration between Damm, the Prades City Council, and the local Agricultural Cooperative, has evolved over more than a decade since the discovery of wild hops in the area in 2014.

Research indicated that the altitude, rainfall, and thermal amplitude of Prades provide environmental conditions comparable to major hop-producing regions in Central Europe. The project has grown from an initial harvest of 3,100 kilograms in 2019 to over 6,000 kilograms in 2020. Currently, the plantations cover approximately seven hectares.

The project cultivates three specific varieties—Nugget, Centennial, and Willamette—to create diverse flavor profiles. These locally sourced ingredients are used in specific products, such as the Complot IPA, as part of a model focused on agronomic innovation and territorial commitment.
