Damt volcanic crater receives safety fence funded by Yemeni expatriate

A community-funded project has completed the installation of an iron fence around the Damt volcanic crater in Al Dhale governorate, Yemen. The initiative aims to prevent fatal falls at the site, which has seen several accidents in recent years.

The project was funded by a Yemeni expatriate living in the United States, Sheikh Abu Haidar al-Muntasir, at a cost exceeding 20 million Yemeni riyals. Local sources noted that such individual initiatives are increasingly filling gaps in public services and infrastructure that the state has failed to provide.

The installation follows the death of a young man, Al-Qa'qa' al-Absi, at the crater. Despite the new barrier, local residents have expressed concern regarding individuals who continue to engage in dangerous climbing, leading to calls for strict fines for anyone entering the restricted area.
