Dan Aykroyd criticizes California social conditions

In a resurfaced interview on ‘The Adam Carolla Show’, actor Dan Aykroyd discussed the stark social contrasts he observes in California compared to his native Canada.

Aykroyd described the current state of California as living in ‘frankly medieval times’, citing the extreme disparity between wealth and poverty. While he noted that areas like Santa Monica offer ‘pockets of the world that are at peace’, he highlighted the presence of approximately 60,000 homeless individuals living on the streets. He expressed a need to remain guarded, mentioning that he avoids driving during ‘prison hours’ and stays within gated communities to ensure his family's safety.

By contrast, Aykroyd praised the peaceful, ‘bucolic’ nature of life in Canada. He recounted a moment when a friend from Israel, visiting his farm, asked what it was like to live in a country without war, leading the actor to reflect on how much he takes such stability for granted.
