Dan Ayoub named President of Wizards of the Coast

Hasbro has announced that Dan Ayoub will become the new president of Wizards of the Coast following a rigorous search process involving dozens of candidates. Ayoub is the first internal candidate to be promoted to this position.

Ayoub previously served as the senior vice president leading the Dungeons & Dragons division. During his tenure there, he oversaw a significant shift in release philosophies and the introduction of the D&D Universes Beyond line, which includes crossovers with properties such as Star Wars and World of Warcraft. He also launched the D&D Icons line featuring classic creators like Tracy Hickman and Margaret Weis.

Ayoub has suggested that his leadership represents a course correction for the brand, noting that Dungeons & Dragons had “lost its way” following previous controversies, such as the attempt to rescind the Open Game License. Before joining Wizards of the Coast in 2022, Ayoub worked in the video game industry, including a role as an executive producer for the Halo franchise. Wizards of the Coast remains Hasbro’s most profitable division, bolstered by the billion-dollar Magic: The Gathering franchise.
