Dan Burn appointed Newcastle United club captain
Newcastle United has officially appointed defender Dan Burn as the club captain for the 2026/27 campaign. The England international, a lifelong supporter of the club, succeeds Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier, who both departed for Arsenal and Wolves, respectively.
Manager Matthias Jaissle described Burn as a ‘natural leader and a perfect fit for the role,’ noting his commitment to the team. Burn, who has previously captained the side on five occasions, expressed that it is ‘an absolute honour’ to lead the team on a permanent basis.
In addition to Burn's appointment, Joelinton has been named the club's vice-captain. Burn is expected to wear the armband during the upcoming friendly match against RC Strasbourg.
