Dan Houser debuts ‘American Caper’ graphic novel series

Dan Houser, the former head of Rockstar Games and founder of Absurd Ventures, has released his first comic book series, ‘American Caper’, published by Urban Comics. Co-written with Lazlow and illustrated by David Lapham and Chris Anderson, the graphic novel is a social satire set in the fictional town of Verone, Wyoming.

The narrative follows a diverse cast of characters, including a gambling-addicted lawyer, a Mormon hitman, a conspiracy-theorist housewife, and a fleeing Mexican beauty queen. The story aims to provide a sharp critique of contemporary American society, touching on themes such as political polarization, racism, consumerism, and corruption.

While the artwork by David Lapham is noted for its ability to capture the gritty and excessive tone of the series, some reviews suggest the writing lacks originality, comparing the execution to existing works in the genre without providing a fresh perspective.
