Dan Houser urges companies to keep selling physical game discs

Dan Houser, co‑founder of Rockstar Games, said at the San Diego Comic‑Con 2026 that video‑game companies should continue offering physical discs as long as there is player demand. He acknowledged that digital distribution provides benefits such as quick updates and fixes, but argued that offering both formats gives consumers choice and preserves the collectible aspect of physical media.

Houser was joined by longtime collaborator Lazlow Jones, who also expressed a fondness for the tactile experience of inserting a disc. Their comments come amid a broader industry shift toward digital‑only releases; PlayStation has announced it will cease producing new physical games after January 2028, and Rockstar confirmed that the upcoming GTA 6 will not be released on disc.

The remarks highlight an ongoing debate in the video‑game sector about the future of physical media versus streaming and download models.
