Dan Jørgensen addresses EU housing and fusion energy priorities
European Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen has engaged in high-level discussions regarding the EU's energy and construction priorities.
In a meeting with FIEC President Piero Petrucco, the construction sector's challenges were addressed, specifically the shortage of skilled workers and the need for digitalized building permit procedures. Petrucco highlighted Italy's national housing plan, which utilizes approximately 4 billion euros to develop 18,000 social housing units through public-private partnerships. The Commissioner has invited further collaboration as the EU prepares a strategic plan expected in late 2025 or early 2026.
Additionally, Commissioner Jørgensen visited the ITER fusion experiment site in France. During the visit, he reviewed progress on the construction of the world's largest fusion facility. Jørgensen emphasized that fusion is a strategic technology for Europe, essential for decarbonization and energy independence. He noted that the European Commission is developing an EU Fusion Strategy to position the union as a global leader in commercializing fusion energy technologies.
