Dan Le Batard criticizes ESPN over diversity in hiring and pay
Sports commentator Dan Le Batard has criticized ESPN, alleging a lack of diversity in the network’s recent hiring, promotion, and compensation decisions. Le Batard claimed that following promises of change in the United States, the leadership at ESPN and the NFL Network has resulted in a pattern where “a whole lot of white people” are being hired and rewarded with significant financial opportunities.
Le Batard specifically cited several high-profile commentators, including Joe Buck, Pat McAfee, Josh Pate, Rich Eisen, the Golics, Jason Kelce, Peter Schrager, and the Mannings, as beneficiaries of recent growth and investment at the network.
Critics of Le Batard’s remarks point to the fact that his premise overlooks significant diversity in high-level compensation, noting that Stephen A. Smith, a Black commentator, signed a $100 million contract extension and remains one of the network’s highest-paid employees.
