Former Florida head coach Dan Mullen, who led the Gators from 2018 to 2021 and compiled a 34‑15 record, reflected on his tenure during an appearance on The Paul Finebaum Show. He noted the team reached an SEC Championship Game but fell short of a national title, and argued that an expanded College Football Playoff format would have earned the Gators a berth in three of his four seasons.

Since his dismissal after a 5‑6 campaign in 2021, the Gators have posted a 23‑27 record. Mullen, now in his second season as UNLV head coach, used the interview to mock Florida’s recent struggles and suggest the program might have fared better had the playoff been larger during his era.
