Dan Perciun announces collection of unused textbooks for redistribution
Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun has announced a plan to collect unused school textbooks from various districts across Moldova to address shortages and quality issues in the capital. Due to a decrease in student numbers in certain regions, many textbooks remain unutilized. These books are scheduled to be transported to Chișinău by October 10.
Once they arrive at the Special Textbook Fund, the books will be inspected and sorted based on their condition. High-quality books will be redistributed to schools in need. This initiative follows public concerns regarding the poor condition of textbooks provided to students in Chișinău at the start of the school year, with reports of torn pages and damaged covers.
Under the new process, parents will be able to request replacements for damaged or worn textbooks directly through schools, which will then receive copies from the fund without the need for intermediaries. The Ministry previously noted that delays in transmitting requests from schools to the National Textbook Fund contributed to the initial supply issues.
