Dan Saunders recounts exploiting $1.6 million ATM glitch
Dan Saunders, an Australian bartender, is detailing his experience of exploiting a banking glitch that allowed him to withdraw $1.6 million in ‘free money’ over a four-month period in 2011. The incident began in Wangaratta, Victoria, when Saunders discovered a technical loophole at a National Australia Bank ATM.
While attempting to transfer funds between his credit and savings accounts during nightly network maintenance, Saunders found that transactions would appear successful in his account balance despite the ATM reporting a failure. This allowed him to withdraw large sums of cash. Saunders used the funds for extravagant expenses, including parties, chartered flights, and college fees for friends.
Following a period of guilt and anxiety, Saunders eventually confessed to the actions. He is now sharing the full details of the event through a new YouTube series titled ‘The Glitch’ produced by True Crime Central.
