Dan Stevens cast as Alex Murphy in new RoboCop series

Dan Stevens has confirmed his casting as Alex Murphy in the upcoming RoboCop television series produced by Amazon MGM, Blumhouse Atomic Monster, and Showrunner Peter Ocko. Stevens described the role as a dream, noting that the original 1987 film left a significant imprint on him.

While the series aims to provide a fresh take for television, Stevens expressed a desire to preserve specific elements from the original franchise, specifically its use of satire and extreme violence. He noted that the new production intends to speak to contemporary society, particularly regarding modern views on technology, power, and policing.

The eight-episode series, written by Peter Ocko, will follow a tech conglomerate that integrates a powerful robot into a city's police force using the consciousness of a fallen officer. This production marks a new chapter for the MGM movie franchise, which was originally directed by Paul Verhoeven.
