Dana Lixenberg retrospective opens at KBr Mapfre in Barcelona
The Mapfre Foundation is hosting a retrospective exhibition titled ‘American Images’ at KBr in Barcelona. Curated by Laurie Hurwitz and Marcel Feil, the exhibition runs until next January and focuses on the photographic works of Dana Lixenberg.
Lixenberg, an Amsterdam-born photographer based in New York, is known for documenting complex social landscapes and marginalized communities. Her notable projects include ‘Imperial Courts’, a long-term study begun in 1993, ‘Wallen’, which portrays Amsterdam’s red-light district, and ‘The Last Days of Shishmaref’, documenting an Inupiaq community in Alaska. The exhibition aims to provide a nuanced and complex vision of American society by capturing individual identities and social circumstances through close, temporal engagement with her subjects.
