Danaher to launch AI-powered autonomous antibody lab in 2027

Danaher Corporation has announced plans to launch its first AI-powered autonomous laboratory by early 2027. Based at its operating company Abcam, the facility will be designed to discover, build, and test custom antibodies with minimal human intervention.

The laboratory will utilize a continuous ‘design-make-test-learn’ loop, integrating AI to design new affinity reagents and robotics to execute the physical construction and testing. This automated workflow is expected to accelerate affinity reagent discovery by up to eight times and eventually increase annual reagent output by nearly ten times.

The project will leverage technology from several Danaher units, including Beckman Coulter Life Sciences, Cytiva, Genedata, Integrated DNA Technologies, and Molecular Devices. Robotic orchestration will be supported by Automata, a firm in which Danaher invested in early 2026.
