Danang woman survives eight hours adrift at sea

A 24-year-old woman, identified as P., survived nearly eight hours adrift at sea after being swept away by large waves at Mui Nghe on the Son Tra Peninsula in Da Nang on August 8. Despite not knowing how to swim, P. managed to stay afloat by applying survival techniques: relaxing her body, lying on her back, and keeping her nose above the water to breathe.

As she began to succumb to exhaustion, she discovered a makeshift float consisting of two plastic bottles that struck her head. Using this to support her neck, she was able to endure until she was rescued by a Vietnam Navy vessel at approximately 2:00 PM that same day.

P. was part of a group of three women swept into the ocean while taking photographs. While P. and another man from the group have been rescued, search and rescue operations continued for the remaining two missing women.
