Danantara Investment Management acquires 25% stake in JBS Australia and New Zealand operations
Danantara Investment Management, an Indonesian sovereign wealth fund arm, has acquired a 25% stake in JBS Group’s operations in Australia and New Zealand for approximately USD 2.5 billion. This deal establishes a new joint venture intended to manage JBS's business in those regions and strengthen the protein supply chain across Southeast Asia.
The joint venture plans to invest up to USD 5 billion in acquisitions and new growth opportunities across Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, and other Southeast Asian nations. While the Indonesian Cattle and Buffalo Farmers Association (PPSKI) welcomed the investment as a sign of the government's interest in the protein sector, the organization raised questions regarding why the capital is being directed toward foreign operations rather than domestic industry development.
In related corporate news, JBS has announced that Wesley Batista Filho will succeed Gilberto Tomazoni as Global CEO, effective January 2027.
