Milan quarry to become Plantasia sound park and environmental lab
Singer Elisa and Giovanni Caccamo have announced Plantasia, a new “sound park” project in Milan designed to transform a 40,000-square-meter degraded former quarry into a space for nature, music, and youth engagement.
The initiative is a collaboration between the Lotus ETS Foundation and Youth & Future – Parola ai Giovani APS. The project aims to combine environmental recovery with cultural production, utilizing phytoremediation—a technique using plants to clean contaminated soil and water. Preliminary soil investigations are currently underway, with the planting phase expected to begin in the spring of 2027.
Plantasia is intended to evolve into a “Bosco del Cambiamento” (Forest of Change), serving as a laboratory for environmental, social, and cultural regeneration. The project will also experiment with “phytoacoustics” to integrate plant life into the musical experience. The Municipality of Milan has allocated approximately 300,000 euros for the experimental phase, while the involved organizations seek to raise an additional 200,000 euros through private funding.
