Dance Theatre of Harlem to perform in Morocco for the first time
The Dance Theatre of Harlem is scheduled to perform in Morocco for the first time on October 2 and 3, 2026. The New York-based company will present two shows at the Royal Theatre of Rabat, a venue designed by Zaha Hadid.
Founded in 1969 by Arthur Mitchell, the company was established to provide classical dance opportunities to talents previously underrepresented in major institutions. Over its half-century history, the troupe has blended classical repertoire with contemporary creation, earning accolades such as the Laurence Olivier Award for ‘Creole Giselle’.
This visit marks the company’s return to the African continent more than thirty years after its 1992 performance in South Africa at the invitation of Nelson Mandela. The performances are part of the company’s 2026-2027 international season.
