Danes support nighttime social media bans for minors
A majority of Danes support implementing nighttime restrictions on social media access for minors under 18. According to a Voxmeter survey conducted for the organization Digitalt Ansvar, 62 percent of respondents agree or strongly agree that social media platforms should be required to block content access for 15-to-17-year-olds between 00:00 and 06:00.
These findings suggest a desire for stricter regulations than those proposed by the EU’s Kids Act, which focuses on blocking nighttime access for 13-to-14-year-olds. Additionally, 52 percent of those surveyed support a full block on social media usage during these hours, including the ability to send and receive private messages.
Proponents of these measures cite concerns regarding sleep deprivation among youth, noting that constant notifications and content feeds can interfere with the eight to ten hours of sleep recommended by health authorities.
