Dang Van Hung arrested for attempted murder after 11 years on the run

The Hanoi People's Procuracy has issued an indictment to prosecute Dang Van Hung for attempted murder following his arrest after 11 years on the run.

The incident occurred on April 8, 2015, at the Quang Beo fishing lake in Soc Son. According to investigators, Hung became enraged when a woman, identified as Nguyen Thi P., refused his demand that she engage in sexual activity with another man. Hung used a homemade firearm to shoot the woman in the right chest area. Although the victim survived, she suffered 89% health impairment.

Following the shooting, Hung attempted to clean the crime scene and fled to Mong Cai, Quang Ninh. He was eventually apprehended by the Hai Phong City Police on January 2, 2026, under a wanted decision. While Hung claimed the weapon and ammunition were found, prosecutors determined the ammunition did not qualify as military-grade weaponry, meaning he will not face additional charges for illegal possession of military weapons.
