Dangjin to host 1.24 trillion KRW AI data center

Chungnam Province and Dangjin City have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish a large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) data center in the Songsan 2 General Industrial Complex. The project, led by EFD and supported by NFD Korea, involves an investment of approximately 1.24 trillion KRW through 2029.

The facility will feature a capacity of 100MW and is expected to create 80 new jobs, with a priority on hiring local talent. The project is currently undergoing power system impact assessments with Korea Electric Power Corporation and is proceeding through architectural permit processes.

This development marks the sixth AI data center project to be attracted to Chungnam Province in the last two years, following similar initiatives in Boryeong, Cheonan, and Asan. Provincial authorities aim to utilize these centers as industrial innovation hubs to integrate AI technology into major regional sectors such as semiconductors, displays, automobiles, steel, and petrochemicals.
