Dangote Group targets $5bn IPO and $16bn Kenya refinery expansion

The Dangote Group is advancing major energy infrastructure projects in Africa, highlighted by a planned $5 billion Initial Public Offering (IPO) for its Lagos-based refinery in October 2026. This offering, which could be Africa’s largest ever, aims to fund capacity expansion and new downstream projects across the continent.

In East Africa, Aliko Dangote has announced plans for a $16 billion refinery on Lamu Island, Kenya. The project, which is expected to have a 700,000 barrel-per-day capacity, is scheduled to begin groundbreaking in October 2026. The Lamu facility will be financed through a mix of 70% debt and 30% equity.

In Nigeria, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) reported that domestic crude supply to local refineries improved significantly in the second quarter of 2026. Local refiners received 53.7 million barrels of crude and condensate, a 97.4% performance rate. The Dangote Petroleum Refinery was the primary recipient, accepting 52.6 million barrels, which represented 78% of the 68.1 million barrels offered to it by producers.
