Dangote Group expands African industrial footprint with refinery projects and IPOs
The Dangote Group is undergoing a massive industrial expansion across Africa, headlined by the development of a major oil refinery and a highly anticipated initial public offering (IPO). In Kenya, a Sh2 trillion refinery project in Lamu is set to launch, aiming to produce 700,000 barrels of oil per day and create 60,000 direct jobs. This facility is expected to serve several East African nations, including Uganda, South Sudan, and Rwanda, reducing regional dependence on Middle Eastern fuel imports.
In Nigeria, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery is driving significant investor interest. The Group projects approximately $36 billion in revenue for 2026, a 100 percent increase over 2025. The refinery's IPO, which offers 4.1 billion shares, has seen high engagement from retail and institutional investors. To support operations, NNPC Ltd. continues to supply crude under a naira-for-crude arrangement, supplemented by dollar-denominated sales to meet international obligations.
Beyond petroleum, the conglomerate is expanding its cement and fertilizer businesses. Dangote Cement plans a 45 percent capacity increase through brownfield projects, while Dangote Fertiliser aims to reach a 12 million metric tonne annual capacity. Aliko Dangote has also indicated that the fertilizer business may seek a public listing as early as next year, moving up its previous 2028 timeline.
